Patient Financial Counselor Supervisor
Scope:
Responsible for the supervision of the Patient Financial Counselor department; Responsibilities include the supervision and coordination of insurance verification and eligibility duties to include the assessment of patient financial requirements, counseling patients on insurance benefits and copayments. Oversees pre-authorization of services and obtains and maintains accurate patient demographics.
This is a full-time, in person position in Birmingham, AL.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Oversees and ensures all insurance, demographic, and eligibility information is obtained and entered into the system in an accurate manner.
- Oversees the process of the insurance verification process on all third-party payors. Obtains initial and subsequent pre-authorization of services.
- Oversees process of reverification of benefits and obtains authorization and/or referral after treatment plan has been discussed, prior to initiation of treatment. Ensures appropriate signatures are obtained on all necessary forms.
- Utilizes the Summary of Patient Reimbursement and Liability form and obtains appropriate approvals as required.
- Oversees the financial counseling process on all patients prior to treatment, which includes patient financial obligations, billing practices and establishing payment arrangements.
- Documents financial counseling process and forwards to Billing Office
- Assists patients in obtaining financial assistance (i.e. Medicaid, drug replacement), outside assistance (i.e. transportation or other community services), and all appropriate forms filled out.
- Ensures collection of co-pays, deductible and other out of pocket amounts are complete at time of visit.
- Assists in maintaining manuals, logs, and other required documents as required.
- Demonstrates an understanding for patient confidentiality to protect the patient and the clinic/corporation.
- Complete annual performance reviews for direct reports.
- Follows policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the front office. Covers for and assists with other front office functions as requested.
- May be required to perform the tasks of the PFC and PFA teams when needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Additional Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to sort and files materials correctly by alphabetic and numeric systems.
- General knowledge of medical terminology.
Education and/or Experience:
- College Degree or Equivalent experience required. Three (3) years of medical office experience with insurance procedures and patient interaction preferred.
